I'm looking for a car that is small, safe enough for a small family of like 2 plus a baby, that will not break down a lot, and that looks good (not like a family car).

Kempie is right about the Corolla's reliability, but frankly it's ugly. The Honda Civic is bound to match it in terms of reliability, and is a bit less bland. A bit further up the scale would be the Mazda Mazda3 or the Subaru Impreza. There's a great comparison on www.edmunds.com that's worth a look.

The Toyota Corolla - hands down. Toyota wins reliability records all the time.

It is small, but big enough for what you need. It is not bulky or boxy.
