Who is "they?" No dealership would tell you that, unless they wanted you to leave the dealership immediately. I assembled my 04 Cooper S online, printed the specs, brought the specs into the dealership, and had my car about, oh, 15 weeks later. I sold it eight months later, as the unending drone of the supercharger, the poor quality of the seats (uncomfortable on any extended drive), and the countless visits to the dealer for stupid small stuff (torn seams on sun visors, inside metal strip along bottom of the door coming unglued, etc.) began to outweigh the few positives the car really offers.

So no, six to eight months most certainly isn't worth it. There are lots of used Minis available, and still covered by the factory warranty. Oh, but look out once that warranty expires.
