Question:
Why is there SOO much hate for Hummers?

Why are people so quick to judge someone driving a Hummer? I don’t get it. I’m 32 I enjoy the outdoors and use my H3 for what it was built for. OK so they’re not the best on gas. Well there are other SUVs out there that have worse MPG than the Hummer. For example the Range Rover, Land Cruiser. The 4Runner gets worse MPG than the H3. Yes the H2 is a little more. But where is all the hate coming from? If we took all the Hummers off the planet, would that solve the issue of dependency on oil and help the environment at all?

In 2009/2010 GM will offer the H2 and H3 in a Hybrid model. Will that hate still be there?

I’m not mad, it’s just messed up!

Hummers are hated because they have become the poster child for vehicle inefficiency, just for the sake of image

If you truly go off road, fine, but the vast majority of the people buying them do not - ever. They buy them (and many other SUV's) only because they look tough, and that's just stupid (note I'm not calling you stupid, you indicated you do actually take yours off road).

So why do Hummers get hated more than the other SUV's you mentioned? Because they are amongst the least efficient of an inefficient breed. Take your H3, for example. For less money, you could have purchased a Nissan Xterra which would have provided similar off road capabilities but would have had significantly more power, better mileage, and more interior space, all for a lower price - and would probably be more reliable over the long haul too. You compare your H3 to a 4 Runner, but the 4 Runner is a roomier, more refined vehicle, your H3 has less room than a RAV4.

Ditto the H2 - It gets mileage in the same range as Suburbans and Sequoya's, but has less room than an Explorer.

As for whether the hate will stay with the Hybrids - probably, once you get an image it's hard to lose it.

Some people hate hummers not only for the reason that they're not great on gas but theres are little thing called "global warming", people are starting to be cautious of it because of all the predictions of where our earth will be in the next few years. Hummers are a major contributer to green house gas and global warming in general. Who knows, maybe people will stop the hate once they get a hybrid hummer however the previous hate may still reign because over these years that the hummer has not been energy efficient, they caused alot of damage to our solar system.

I don't have a problem with hummers regarding jealousy but many people do. They see it as a giant "i'm so great symbol" however my opinion is that if you can afford to live a luxurious lifestyle, then do it. Also i'm happy that they are coming out with a more energy efficient model, only time will tell if the hummer will generate love or hate.

Hope i helped here are some links.

I think all the tree huggin' hippies need to get their heads outta their asses. There are vehicles on the road that use much more gas , take up tons more space, and pollute the environment more than hummers.

My boyfriend has an H3 and its so much fun to drive. We use it for off roading and have a blast. Yes it uses more gas, and costs more to drive than my Subaru Forester, but we love it and that's all that matters.

Dont hate cause youre driving some POS and cant afford anything better. If you work hard then you can afford to play hard!

Because the H1 WAS a Hummer. IT was a totally unique truck thru and thru. The H2 and 3 and so on was nothing like a H1 where it really counted. They just had that H1 look but nothing to back up the look. The H2 was built on a Suburban frame. So its a Suburban underneath and a hummer look on top. Same story but different stolen frames for the H3 and so on into the future. There is only one REAL Hummer the H1.

Besides the uselessly rotten fuel mileage you forgot to say a couple of different matters approximately HUMMERS; - they do not steer valued at a crap - they've the worst dealing with of their section - they've the worst outward visibility of their section - they've some of the longest preventing distances from 60 MPH - they're a re bodied Chevy Tahoe however they fee $10,000 extra whilst new. - their slalom pace is the bottom of all 4x4s - they appear like anything a Pimp could force - their resale importance sucks - their seats would possibly appear secure however reviews have proven that they help the passengers in all of the fallacious locations. - GMC idea it was once one of these legal responsibility that they bought the rights to fabricate it to the Chinese. You now possess a Chinese import - ROTFL - and a used one at that - ROTFLMFAO. - and persons are giggling and pointing at you each moment that you are at the avenue with it. - congrats - you simply hit rock backside. AND I DON"T HATE HUMMERS. I'M JUST QUOTING THE PUBLISHED FACTS ON THIS VEHICLE.

They are a target just like anything else. They are huge and you can see them coming a mile away. Everyone believes what they see in the news. So when a group of nut jobs key them or blow them up to make a point that i what is shown on the news. The terrible H2 owners are these non environmental, gas hogs that drive them without regard for the environment. You do not care about the environment if you are not driving a 4 cylinder, electric car. Rubish!

Drive whatever car you want. Free will. Open market.

I think the honest answer for why anyone hates on anything sooo much is because deep down they may really wish they could have whatever it is they're hating on. I personally don't find hummers to be that nice looking or tight looking especially for the price. But that's why I wouldn't buy one and other then that I don't even care what anyone else drives. Most people are hating cuz they can't afford the gas or the hummer and feel financially inferior to people who can I suppose. Using anything material as a status symbol is kinda lame but if you enjoy whatever it is you're spending your money on then to hell with what anyone else has to say about it!!

I really hate the build quality. I have owned 2003 H2 and after 20000 miles, things were rattling and squeaking. Nothing like that on my Range Rover. For the price, it is just cheap quality everywhere. I don't care about the gas mileage on large SUVs like these as much as build quality for the money I put in. You can't compare H3 to a Land Rover....H3s are just awful....handling, power, build quality, utility needs significant improvement. Because they cost almost as much as Land Rover, does not make it a competitor.

I own an LR2 now and would never buy GM products anymore.

I don't understand it either. Why would people be annoyed about a car that costs over $50,000, built on a truck chaises, has a 32 gallon gas tank, and gets terrible fuel economy which they don't even have to publish because it's considered a truck. The fact it puts 3 times more pollutants in the air than the average sedan should be beside the point.

Must be they are just jealous. Ignore them.

It's not so much the car ......... it's the ******* that think they have to have one to be a man. GET OVER IT! It's like penis envy. And mine is always bigger than the next guy's so I don't need to drive a Hummer. Like the coach said " If I needed a Hummer I'd call your Mother".

I think people worry about the gas and the pollution but taking the Hummer's off the road will not cure it!

I personally don't understand the Hummer's that go under water, when are we ever going to use that :)

I'm not a fan of hummers due to the following reason: They guzzle gasoline and are even worse for the enviornment, they are insanely huge, many people who drive them revvy up their engines to show off (but really come off as jerks), and lastly they are ugly. I'm not against anyone who buys them but if i had the money to spend on a nice car, I"m not about to waste it on something so horrible looking, hurts the ozone more then a normal car, wastes gas and is so show-offish.

There's nothing wrong with hummers, my dad owns one.

People talk about them being wasteful and extravagant, but Americans as a whole are very wasteful; it's more of a jealousy thing, I believe. They say they hate them, but if the could theyd probably own one or something like it.

Some people are just jealous that they can't afford a vehicle and its upkeep so they say negative things about it.

You work hard for your money and can enjoy it any way that you want too.

This SUV seems to work best with your leisure lifestyle...OUTDOORS...so try not to let it bother you what someones opinion is about your HUMMER.

Uh...because they're incredibly ugly, they clog the roads and gas stations and of course they simply s**t all over the environment.

Don't forget that most people see anyone who would actually own one of these hideous things as a self centered jack *** also and who likes that?

I think most of the "hate" comes from it being such an extravagance. Such an expensive vehicile, it guzzles fuel, and 99% of new Hummer owners do NOT utilize what the vehicle was made for.

It's just kind of wasteful as a whole... if you see what I mean? So much luxury, and resource use.

I don't hate hummers. Although at times I think some people need to take lessons on how to drive and park them instead of taking up two lanes and two parking spaces, but I figure if people want to have them why not.

If you drive it, you will know.

It has low head room. It is not for people that are 6 feet tall.

It has no room and bad interior quality. It is made out of cheap materials and gets 9mpg.

It is also very slow. Top speed is 92mph.

This is the first time I hear about this. I don't hate them I just can't afford one and much less the gas to keep it going. But good for you, that you have a car that you enjoy. Just tell people to quit drinking that hater-ade.

if you take your hummer 4 wheeling, then that's fine. people just need to put it in four wheel drive once in a while and take it off road

Because it does use a lot of fuel, and because it is a tasteless, arrogant, display of conspicuous consumption.

Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead in one, but I'll let you in on a little secret: I think they look really cool!
