1973 Ford Maverick bought in 1981, copper color, a color I dearly wish they'd bring back. Only had a Philco AM/FM radio. No tape, and of course this was before CDs. Bench seats front and back. Automatic, actually took unleaded gas, which was unusual for a '73. That car totally represented freedom to me, and I'd make frequent trips in between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Most poignant memory is of a Corvette running a red light and slamming into the side (also before airbags) of my car knocking me and the Maverick catty corner across the intersection. I was crying, shaken, but otherwise OK. I finally got out to see my car's vital fluids leaking all over the street. Even so, it looked better than that Corvette - fiberglass shards were everywhere. I lost my car that day, but I survived with only whiplash. Back then a car didn't need air ballons to protect its driver, it was made of steel and built like a little tank. That car saved my life. I've hated Corvettes ever since that day. Their drivers are arrogant so-and-sos who think they own the roads. I only had my Maverick two years.
