sweet ride!!I still have my 1989 Range Rover!! Despite the critics detribes of the Land Rover. Keep all of the tune ups, regular oil changes and routine maintanence done and they do nothing different than any other car.I've owned a 1991 Ford Ranger that was hell to maintain and finally sold it. My Landie is a better runner in bad weather that even the Nissan Titan and the Toyota Tundra who both bit the big one in 6 inches of clay!A grand total of 4 Ford F150s, 1 Tundra,1 Titan were all stuck in the mud and i made it to work.Still runs great with routine maintanence. Enjoy your "new"Landie!!

Freelanders are notoriously unreliable, and suffer many gremlins. At least you haven't got the bloody awful K series engine, but the V6 is known for chomping through head gaskets as well, so don't get too relaxed just yet. The gearboxes are dreadfully weak, and the electrical system on Freelanders is known for giving trouble. The drive shafts and 'Tracta' joints also break up internally, so that's more money up your shirt.
I really wouldn't buy any type of Land Rover at present, they have just got too much going wrong with them, and the internet is littered with horror stories about Land and Range Rovers in general.
Buy a nice, reliable, well-built Japanese 4x4 instead. Go by the Australian adage, 'If you go into the outback, use a 4x4, if you want to come back alive, make sure it's a Toyota.

The diesel engine interior the quicker (TD) fashions became a Rover engine - the L-sequence. Its a good engine, particularly good and effective, yet slightly unrefined. The diesel engine interior the later (TD4) facelifted fashions became a BMW engine - greater effective, lots greater sophisticated and nonetheless good. The petrol a million.8 engine is a version of Rover's ok-sequence. that's an excellent engine (if stored in many cases serviced) in a million.a million and a million.4 variations (Rover Metro, 211, 214 and 414), however the a million.6 and a million.8 variations could have head-gasket issues. additionally it lacks torque, this is a controversy via fact the Freelander isn't mild. The petrol V6 2.5 is likewise a derivative of the Rover ok-sequence. i'm no longer conscious of any significant reliability problems with this engine, however the gas intake is as unfavorable as you will possibly assume for a 2.5 v6 in a 4x4. dodge the a million.8 petrol, evaluate the v6 in case you will come across one and don't intend doing many miles, yet in any different case choose for the diesel, and a TD4 in case you could locate the money for it.

When the AA did a survey of all cars bought between 2000 and 2006 the most unreliable (by a good margin) was the Discovery, and second least reliable was the Freelander. Apparently 1 in 4 has a major break-down every year, serious. There's no room in them, they're rubbish off-road, and look at the re-sale prices.
My mum had one and even as a blonde woman she found it cr4p. Look on some of the forums - don't ask the dopes that already have one, they're not likely to tell you they're rubbish - you might buy theirs.

My boss had a Freelander for 3 years. In that time it had 3 engines and 4 gearboxes. Luckily they were all replaced under warranty.
It was only when the sunroof broke for the FIFTH time that they decided to replace it. He now has a Nissan X-Trail.
A colleague of my wife went to a garage to buy a Freelander and the salesman (who was a friend) refused to sell it to him because he knew it would come back with faults.
So in answer to your question......NO - they are as bad as it gets!

Spend any left-over money getting comprehensive AA membership - Freelanders are massively unreliable and have dragegd Land Rover to near the bottom of the JD power survey year after year. And I speak as someone who has own Land Rovers for ten years....

These older freelanders have a very poor reliabilty record.
Have even been featured on TV consumer Prog. Watchdog.

This model is very thirsty when it comes to fuel, but it is a far better engine than the 1.8.
The vehicle its self in my opinion isn't very good the quality of its interior is rather poor and there are always problems with the electric windows.

Not eco friendly.and with the green lobby gaining support rapidly through the global warming issue a) you wont be very popular, and b) the price of 4 x 4s are about to drop through the floor,so just think about it,it may prove to be costly.

I hope you are a farmer or live in a very remote area. Otherwise, in the current environmental climate, I can't imagine anyone being selfish enough to buy such a destructive vehicle.

they are far better mechanically than the 1.8.the v6 is very thirsty and the gearbox is often suspect to whineing.may be go for a different make mitsubishi shogun diesel bit more expensive but far superior

very good if serviced properly - make sure you have the car checked over properly watch out for head gasket probs check coolant level before and after test drive check for steam coming out of exhaust etc.

My ex hit a stationary Volvo at 30 and it MULLERED her 'Lander.
Any auto that size will be thirsty - if you MUST get one of these paper 4x4's, get a manual diesel - better still get a Discovery.
