This all depends on what year of the RAV4 and the Sportage you are looking at. According to my knowledge, the RAV4 came first when compared to all other sport-compact SUVS eg.--> ( Ford Escape, Honda CRV, Jeep Liberty...). Also, the RAV4 is very fuel-efficient and the most spacious and comfortable compact SUV in the market. As for the Sportage, yes, at first glance, everything seems to be superb, powerful V8 or V6, smooth ride and such...But on a long-term bases, problems you may not have noticed before emerges. All in all, go for the Toyota RAV4, it's better than the Kia :)

Toyota is a much more reliable vehicle over the Sportage. I work in the car industry and am certified in appraising/evaluating/mechanics of a vehicle. Rav4 is pricier, but is consistently ranked as one of the most reliable vehicles on the market.

Sportage, although not a horrible bet and is better than some of the other small SUV's out there, is no match for Rav4

Rav4 has better reliablity ratings, much higher resale value (Kias have the lowest resale value out there), better safety ratings and better quality options. Sportage may have longer warranty, but with Toyota, you won't have to use much of the warranty, while with Sportage you will.

Overall, the only viable reason to pick Sportage is if you want a very affordable car and if you don't plan to drive it for longer then 5 years and you are not worried about how much it will depreciate once you are done with it. If not, buty a Rav4

I would buy a Sportage before I'd buy a Rav4, simply because of price! I believe the reliability is comparable for both, you pay extra for the Toyota name. I own a Kia and I've owned a Toyota recently and respect both brands. Pick which car suits you best. All the talk of keeping the car for a few years, buy the Toyota? If you buy the Toyota it just means your warranty expires that much sooner. If you buy the Kia you should have a cheaper monthly payment and a warranty. Whatever you do, don't buy GM- I have a sister-in-law that has a shot transmission in her '07 Chevy Suburban! I wonder if that had the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty? Either way that is horrible and wouldn't buy a GM product for quite a while.

Kia is better than the RAV4 in all respects. If you look at the dimensions of the car, plus the interior fit and finish, without excluding atention to detail, the Kia is a much, much better car.

If you care about eventual resale value however, get the rav4, stay miserably with it, till you eventually sell it. We are brand snobs these days. Kia cars are way better built than Toyotas.

Sportage has better reviews and more awards for the newer cars.

The RAV4 is more reliable. But the Sportage is reliable too and more fuel efficient.

Kia has a great warranty. Toyota has much better resale. Kia is a real 4x4 if you go off road. I own a toyota and a kia if you plan on putting 100,000 miles on the car and then trade for a new one buy the kia. If you plan on driving it until the wheels fall off buy the toyota.

You are paying way too much for the name with the Toyota. For far less, you get way more with the Sportage. I'm talking about warranty, specifications, value, mileage.
