Some vehicles automatically shutdown the engine when certain engine problems occur. My 1996 Cutlass Ciera (V-6 engine) shut down while accelerating on to the freeway - immediately after filling up my gas tank. The diagnosis was two bad fuel injectors, which were replaced. It is possible that all I had was water in my gas tank from the service station tanks, or possibly a blocked fuel filter (my vehicle had 210,000 miles on it and the fuel filter was the original from the factory). The fuel filter was not changed, though, and the car ran okay after the new injector were installed ($300.00 + $75.00 for the tow). I hope this information helps you to ask the right questions when you have the car serviced. Check your owners manual section on "fuses" to determine which fuse the fuel pump runs off of, and see if the other items listed under that fuse are working. The fuel pump almost certainly has a "relay" switch which may be bad. And there may be a "fuseable link" in the wires to the fuel pump which has shorted out and needs to be replaced. Good luck!

I'M A WOMAN AND DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS BUT WE USED TO OWN A CAR JUST LIKE THAT, IT DID THE SAME THING. tRY THE COIL PACKS. MY HUSBAND WORKS AT A GARAGE AND HE SUGGESTS FOR THAT CAR TO TAKE IT AND HAVE IT PUT ON A COMPUTER BEFORE SINKING ANY MORE MONEY IN IT. HOPE THAT HELPED A LITTLE.
