i own a 1995 saturn sl1..after it gets warmed up the engine light comes on..and then i only have low gear(automatic) then after i shut off the engine and restart it the engine light goes out and i have all gears's..why?

hmmmmmm......not an easy one.
Honestly to avoid a headache I would just take it to the dealer (or a shop). It sound like an internal problem, something with a seal internally in the Transmission. You would have to pull the trans (engine too).
If you are right in your window for an automatic trans fluid change, do it. However, if you have waited too long (gone longer than 50000 miles) since your last trans fluid change, DO NOT change tha fluid. This could cause a failure of the seals. Old fluid establishes wear patterns in the seals of your trans.
If you have not kept up with maintinence, take it in. If you have, change your trans fluid and see if that helps (remember spin-on trans filter on front).
