Is your Sportage and EX or LX? Will make a difference in the size. But let's assume you are running the larger 235/60-16 sized tires. Tons of great options. If you want the best, and can afford it, look at the following:
Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring
Michelin Primacy MXV4
Both have outstanding control, long wear, comfortable with great grip wet and dry. Either would be around $145 a tire.
If you still what a very good tire but are on somewhat of a budget, consider these:
Hankook Optimo H727
General Altimax HP
Both the Hankook and the General are top notched tires for the money. Both just over $100 a tire.

Tire size it will tell you on the side of the original tire
As for which brand would depend on price
There are alot of good tires such as Michelin bridge stone... Dunlap... kuhmo... etc
Mid range tires would be a falken or nitto
Even Nexten works well
I wouldn't go with a tire to cheap the ride will suck and won't last long...

I suggest a tire store to fulfill your needs. You don't even know the 2 places on your car where the size is listed so I deem you hopeless. Remember go to a Tire store and not the pizza place.

Check your local newspaper for tire ads. Some one is always having a sale. The mechanics can get your tire size from your original tires.
